The Perfect Christmas Setting | HOW TO

Christmas is the perfect time of year to enjoy the company of family and friends over a feats of food. If you are hosting Christmas year, we have some handy hints to ensure your guests are wowed. Creating the perfect table setting for Christmas is a true art-form, however with these simple tips you will be an expert in no time.

Firstly, start with a colour theme!!! You probably already have a dinner-set you wish to use so maybe consider the colours in your plates as a good base. As you can see in the video, we used green as our feature colour (to complement the plates), a natural linen as our base colour and a subtle timber brown, to tie everything together nicely. It’s nice to coordinate your table setting with the rest of your Christmas decorations, ensuring flow and continuity. It will also create an impact on your guests. Having a base of three colours is a great start and not too much overkill.

Secondly, find a theme. You may wish to create a winter woodlands theme or a traditional “Aussie” Christmas theme, with shells, seaside trinkets and a colour theme of nautical red, white and blue. In the video we chose to use a 'winter woodlands' theme. We did this through using pinecones and greenery as our main feature as well as a neutral colour palate.

Finally, and I think most importantly, is layering. Your mantra here should be layer, upon layer, upon layer. You want to make every person at your dinner table feel special, so place special attention to the individual place settings. Start with the bottom and work your way up. Have a placemat, which can be layered on top of a tablecloth, as the base.

Check out the video for a step by step process for a perfect layered concept.
