Have you ever noticed the moment you walk into a room you experience an immediate reaction to its atmosphere? You either feel calm and at peace, or agitated and uneasy, this is because research has shown the natural energies created in our environment influence our subconscious feelings. Through implementing positive elements in our homes such as light, colour and smell, we can create an environment that encourages health, happiness and wellness.
Now I want you to have a look around your home and answer the following questions:
Is there a specific space in your home that makes you feel uncomfortable for sustained periods of time?
Is there a common room in the home where fighting always breaks out?
Do you feel drained, unmotivated, and confused more than often in your home?
Do you find yourself feeling panicked and hypervigilant for no apparent reason when attempting to rest in your home?
If you answered YES to any of the above, it is time to cleanse your home and by implementing some small atomic changes in your environment, you will notice an immense difference in the energy of your home.
Make your home a healing environment
Immerse in Nature and Brighten your World:
As we touched on in our last article, nature has a profound impact on our feelings of positivity and happiness, through implementing aspects of nature such as plants, you will automatically enhance the energy of the space. Additionally, when you fill your home with natural light, you're more likely to have better health and wellbeing. A 2014 study found that people who had windows in their office exercised more, got more sleep, and had a greater sense of overall wellbeing than those who didn't have windows. Research has shown our bodies stick to their natural circadian rhythms, so that they know when to feel alert and energetic and when to feel sleepy.
What to Implement:
Add an indoor plant into your living space, especially the space which you feel has the most negative energy. Refer to our previous article "An Urban Jungle - The Importance of House Plants" for tips on picking the right plant for your space.
Open your blinds! This is probably the most important of all tips as natural light has a profound impact on our wellbeing.
Open your windows! By opening your windows you are releasing all the stale air and also any negative energies in your space.

Simplify your life and multiply your riches:
Removing unneeded and unwanted things from your home reduces stress. Cleaning removes dust and toxins from your home. Household clutter and mess can feel incredibly overwhelming, only adding to the stress of everyday life that already leaves many people struggling. In fact, a research study at UCLA found that stress hormone levels increased significantly in female homeowners that had a high density of household objects. Basically, the more stuff they had in their homes, the more pressure and anxiety the women felt.
What to Implement:
Give one item away each day. This would remove 365 items every single year from your home. If you increased this to 2 per day, you would have given away 730 items you no longer needed. Increase this number once it gets too easy.
Donate clothes you never wear. To identify them, simply hang all your clothes with hangers in the reverse direction. After wearing an item, face the hanger in the correct direction. Discard the clothes you never touched after a few months.
Get help from a friend. Have a friend or family member go through your home and suggest a handful of big items to throw away or give to someone else. If you defend the item and want to keep it, your friend has to agree with your reason. If they don’t agree, it’s time to get rid of it.
Alternative methods to cleans your home:
Regardless if you believe in a higher power or not, spiritual hygiene can have a profound impact on your environment. Colleen McCann an energy practitioner who specialises in clearing energy at home says in a vogue article (2016) “We take care of our bodies with exercise, good diets, and skin care, so why wouldn't we take care of our energetic body as well?” That’s where the spiritual hygiene comes in.

Sage and Palo Santo
One good way to clear and clean out bad energy is by burning sage or Palo Santo. Now with recent trends in society Sage and Palo Santo is widely used, however most burners don’t exactly know what they’re doing with it, or what it’s really doing for them and their space. Burning sage dates back to pre-historic times and has been documented as having been used to cleanse a person, group of people and space. McCann continues to report in the article “sage clears bacteria in the air. Sage smoke offers rapid delivery to the brain and efficient absorption to the body. Scientists have observed that sage can clear up to 94 percent of airborne bacteria in a space and disinfect the air. When sage is burned, it releases negative ions, which is linked to putting people into a positive mood.”
Crystals
Crystals have been used for thousands of years for their healing energies and magic powers. They are thought to have the power to cleanse the polluted energy from the electrical devices in your home such as the microwave and wifi, helping bring peace to your room. They also make wonderful decorative items, however placing them in a correct space is important to attain the best use of the crystal.
