Express Yourself Through Wall Art

The beautiful thing about art is how it can be a reflection of you the individual, and as people step into your home, your art is used to tell a story of who you are. Art exists to remind us where we’ve been, what we love, and it reflects the beauty we are drawn to.

However choosing art for your home doesn’t always come naturally and for some, it may even be the most challenging part of tying a room together. At splendour we get questions like... how do I choose the right art size or the right colours to fit my space? So if you are stuck trying to decide what kind of art will look good in your space, or you already know what you like and simply need to find the right one, we’re here to help guide you toward identifying wall art that fit your style and your space.

Artwork on the walls can provide the focal point of your room and really bring the room together.

CONSIDER YOUR AVAILABLE WALL SPACE

The first step to choosing a piece of wall art is determining what kind of home you have. If you want to get the sizing right, now is the time to grab the tape measure.

If you have a larger wall to fill or are wanting one statement piece to anchor your space, look for large-scale art. These pieces have the potential to make a really big impact on a space!

Lots of different artworks or frames scattered randomly across a wall can look a bit messy. One solution is to hand a gallery wall, which can bring all these different elements together. It is also the perfect way to display lots of family photos or perhaps photos from your travels. A good starting point with a gallery wall is to pair complementary styles and colours together to ensure visual appeal. To avoid making a mistake when hanging your gallery, we recommend placing your frames on the floor in front of the wall first and then wait until you are happy with the composition of the art.

A FEW GENERAL GUIDELINES WHEN HANGING ART

  • Art should be at eye level. Most people tend to hang artwork about 20 cm too high, which ends up throwing off the rest of the rooms proportions. The average eye level is about 150cm fro the ground up, so that is the best sport to centre your art on the wall. If you have high ceilings, add 10 - 20cm in height.

  • If you are hanging art above a sofa, add 60 - 70 cm from the top of the sofa to the bottom of the artwork, to avoid hitting your head against the edge of the frame when you lean back. You want your art work to be approximately 3/4 of the length of your sofa for room proportion.

  • If your wall has items like light switches or controls, ensure you centre the artwork with these lines.

CONSIDER YOUR EXISTING SPACE STYLE AND HOME-WARES

Before purchasing new wall art for a specific space, take stock of what home-wears and furniture you already have. For a mostly neutral room, rich or colourful art could be great to infuse. Or, if you already have plenty of colour, texture, and pattern, look for simpler, more subdued art pieces.

PAIR COMPLEMENTARY STYLES + COLOURS TOGETHER

Our wall art is categorised by style to help you identify pieces that you’re naturally drawn to. Go bold and mix styles or stick to the genre that feels right to you. To make it even simpler, consider art that’s sold as a pair.

There isn’t a set formula for grouping art together, so enjoy the process of trying something new in your space!

This collection is filled with pieces for any space and any style. We hope you’ll find something here that you love, and that adds a renewed sense of joy and meaning to your home.
