A Splendid Christmas

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. There is nothing that makes me happier than decorating our home at Christmas time. The lights on the tree, the stockings on the fireplace and the gingerbread baking in the oven. Do you agree with me when I say it feels like magic is in the air?

Now we have clients come into our showroom around this time of the year, asking how to best decorate their home during the festive season, so we thought to do a blog post to simplify the process.

Point 1. Tree Placement

Is Christmas truly Christmas without a tree? No matter how big or small your space is, a Christmas tree is vital. We always recommend to place the tree in the central living space of the home (i.e. Kitchen, Lounge, Dining). Ours is in our Kitchen/Living space as it's where our family spends the majority of the time together.

Point 2. Wreaths

Wreaths are traditionally placed on the front door to the home, however these days, wreaths can be used as a center piece on a Dinning Table. We always recommend placing a wreath on the front door as it symbolise festivity to your guests as they enter your home. In saying this, we also believe being creative in using a wreath for a center piece with a beautiful candle in the center.

Point 3. Keep it Simple

Whilst it is very easy to get carried away during the festive season with all the Christmas decorator items for sale, stick to a theme (i.e. traditional, scandi, modern). If you start to mix decorator items together from different themes, your house will look cultured and feel messy. Bottom line, keep it clean and simple.

Point 4. Stockings (and stocking hooks)

The tradition of hanging stockings on the fireplace mantel before Christmas is a tradition as old as time. I used to love waking up on Christmas day to find little goodies stuffed inside my stocking. It’s a tradition I will always cherish. Pick up a stocking for each member of your family and use stocking hooks to hang them in front of your fireplace. This is definitely a must-have traditional Christmas decoration!

Point 5. Candles

Christmas scented candles are the perfect decoration to make it smell like Christmas in your home! There are so many different scents you can use to fill the air with a delightful holiday smell, check out our online store to find your perfect holiday scent.

Now whilst everything I have spoken about will make your environment something so beautiful to be part of... the most important part of the Christmas season is spending it with the ones you love. Lets be honest, it doesn't matter how beautiful your space looks, if you are not surrounded by family and friends Christmas is not as magical. While we all have our own reasons for decorating the house at Christmas Time, or choosing to side-step the tradition together, the most important thing to remember is that the holidays are a time to be good to others, whether their belief system is the same as yours or not.
